I received an invitation for an exclusive VIP event hosted at Chef Todd English’s Olives restaurant. Immediately I said yes as we had been there before at the Venetian Village and loved the place. It’s been awhile now since we were last there. But this event is different, Chef Todd himself who has flown from the US will be there to introduce their highly anticipated new menu. A celebrity chef, he has designed and crafted a unique flavorful selection of mouth-watering dishes. Rain (if ever it rains in Abu Dhabi) or storm (sandstorm perhaps) won’t stop me. 🙂
It was attended by personalities from the media, newspapers and magazine as well as social media influencers. It was lovely to meet the charming Ms. Nibal Baasiri, the Advertising Manager of Dar Al Khaleej. Al Khaleej is now one of the most popular Arabic-language newspapers in the country. I also met Mr. Arshad Hussain, the Bureau Chief – Abu Dhabi of the Urdu Akhbar Weekly. Urdu Akhbar is a product of Aalam Publications, releasing weekly issues for the Urdu reading families. Abu Dhabi Confidential was also represented at the event.
There were free-flowing canapés & cocktails and everyone was encouraged to try to taste the lovely offerings. It was a light evening, just socializing and discussing current media trends with fellow bloggers as we partook the exceptional dishes in sample sizes. His Todd English’s Olives Restaurant is famous all over with branches in Boston, New York, Las Vegas, Mexico City, Mexico, Nassau, Bahamas and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Aside from the famous Olives chain of restaurants and many others that he owns, Chef Todd also has the Todd English Food Hall in Manila, Philippines. And of course I will not miss the chance to have a photo taken with the celebrated Chef Todd English.
The ambiance at Todd English’s Olives is very inviting, cozy, comfortable with the plush seats, laid back with its own classy style and sophistication. It matches the rustic Mediterranean / strongly Italian influenced cuisine. Each dish that we tasted showed that they only used the freshest ingredients from seafood to meat to vegetables. They also have an extensive award-winning list of wines and drinks.
Check out the dishes we’ve tried. I am not sure if I got all the names right but I AM SURE I got the taste right.
Here’s my verdict.
The Risotto Spoons were so good, it had that authentic taste and feel. Creamy but not lumpy. I also enjoyed the Fried and Baked Raviolini in Tomato Sauce which is also good for vegetarians. I am meat eater yet I didn’t even notice that it doesn’t have meat on it. Next we tried the ones with seafood. You could taste the freshness of the shrimp on the Lettuce Cups with Shrimps Ceviche and the tuna on the Tuna Tartare With Chive Aioli and Caviar. No fishy smell at all. As for the Pressed Lamb Shank with Roasted Potato Rounds, you can almost imagine the slow cooking of the meat, it was so tender and bursting with flavor. We also tried the Duck Rilletes On Brioche Toast and the Apricot Jelly provided an interesting twist on the flavor and I loved it. The Frenched Chicken Wings and Spicy Sauce was ok but I am not very fond of the tangy sweet taste.
They also served Oyster Bloody Mary Shooters – what I can say about it is it is an acquired taste. The mocktails were refreshing and not too sweet.
The assorted wood-fired flat breads were just so delish! IKR. Yes they make you crave for more. We tried the Truffle Flat Bread (I am not so sure if it’s called a truffle flat bread but yes it does have truffle) and the Pepperoni Flat Bread. Both were superior in taste. I will definitely come back for more.
To finish the meal we had a selection of Olives Mini Sweets and some coffee. How do I describe the sweets… they are all good. I hate desserts when they are annoyingly drenched with extreme sweetness. I highly recommend to try their sweets and finish it off with coffee, wonderful and delicious Latte.
The service was on point. No complaints at all. The staff off Todd English’s Olives were attentive and everything went perfect. From the time we arrived and up to the time we left, they were all nice and simply wonderful.
I bet that with this highly anticipated new menu, Todd English’s Olives will continue to attract favorable reviews from everyone. After all, it is Olives.
*Aside from Chef Todd English’s Olives Restaurant, special thanks and mention to Sara Brenko of BeUnique Group for the invite. Also to Saad Bennani e-Marketing Executive of Abu Dhabi National Hotels for having us. I really enjoyed this special evening and I feel honored to be a part of this. Thank you.
