We had lunch at Hot Palayok yesterday. Had been hearing things about this place from friends so hubby and I decided to visit and check it out. We initially thought that it was at the food court of Madinat Zayed but we didnt know that there were two food courts. This one is located at the foodcourt on top of Lulu at Madinat Zayed. I was a bit hesitant as I was expecting that it would be quite noisy or just too many people with a food court set up.
I was actually surprised that it was far beyond my expectations. Hot Palayok is like a resto on its own inside the foodcourt. It wasn’t a plain stall. The ambiance was nice and comfy. You could see that with the design, chairs, tables and decors etc. that the management took care of the themed details. Very much unlike what you see in the usual food court set up.
We went there for the buffet but was informed that the lunch buffet was only during weekends and that the regular buffet will be at around 6pm. We wanted to see what they had to offer for the price of 49 dirhams. Anyhow there’s always a next time for the buffet. So we went ahead and ordered ala carte.
Lea our food server is what I can call an asset to this place. You could feel her genuine warmth and interest in providing a great dining experience. The service is “A”-ok! She attended to our needs as if we were dining at a 5 star place. Whenever she saw our glasses nearly half empty she would promptly refill it that I had to tease my husband that this girl seems to be forcing us to drink a lot of water.
We ordered what she recommended. The ox tail stew or what is popularly known as Kare Kare in the Philippines. Incidentally Hot Palayok means hot claypot. In some Asian countries people still cook using claypot or earthen ware as it is known to add some distinctive flavor and preserve the heat of the food. The oxtail was very tender and also the peanut sauce was creamy and it came well presented. Presentation adds plus factor for me whenever I eat. We also ordered some Kangkong with Bagoong, and fried siomai.
They also had Sansrival and of course I simply had to taste it and found it just fine. I wish they will try to develop more the Sansrival recipe. It tasted ok but could taste better.
Oh and before I forget, we ordered their Pina Colada a pineapple cold drink inside the Pineapple fruit itself. It was so refreshing. And for everything that we ordered, the price was just fine at 128dhs. We are definitely coming back to try their buffet. It’s the fastest way to try bits and pieces of what they offer.
P.S. a birthday celebrant will surely like this place, great ambiance, affordable price, great service and to top it- the staff blurts out a funny and entertaining happy birthday song. 😊
